I have an American friend who is interested in Chinese pop music of 1970s. Therefore I want to buy him a CD as a Christmas present.

It is quite easy to find CD albums of old Cantonese pop music of 70s and 80s because Cantonese pop songs produced in the last 10 years are terrible. Many Hongkongers have been starving for good music for long time...I guess. When I checked in a CD shop, I was surprised to see a LD album of an unpopular singer in 80s was re-published as new CD album.

Choi Kok-kuen (蔡國權) was not popular but a special singer of 80s in Hong Kong. In 70s and 80s, most popular Cantonese pop singers sang songs which melodies were copied from Japanese or American music. However, he composed most of his songs. My young brother sometimes composes music, and I seldom give him presents, so I bought the CD to give him.

Choi's music was often quiet and soft. Side A of the original LD recorded love songs. The third song is a beautiful Chinese-style music titled "Not decorating your dream (不裝飾你的夢)". Side B recorded songs about friendship and belief. The third song "Reason (原因)" echos with what I have seen in school and my life in these two years. Anyway, music in this album is nice and interesting.
